  8. What did Picasso mean when he said “good artists copy, great artists steal”? Did he really say this or did someone else say it? I’ve noticed plagiarism is not a thing in visual art. Anyone can repaint anyone else’s work, identically and sell it under their own name. To say nothing of incorporating someone else’s art in a new creation of one’s own. I learned this first on Fine Art America when I found so many artists were also copiests. Brazenly so. So taking someone’s work and doing something else with it must be taken as an homage. I think the original artist is rather meant to be flattered. (:

    • We stand on the shoulders of giants,
      but some choose to pick their pockets.
      One should always pay due credit.
      I was weened by Mother Surrealism,
      and then rebelled against Pop Art.
      A realistic Neo-Classical brat, like a
      still life basket of fruit. I find inspiration
      in all good art. Picasso did say that
      creation is destruction. Perhaps that is
      the fate of all plagiarism.

      I’ve had to convince puppy
      that he ain’t no Steve Irwin.
      Lot’s of wildlife around here
      for an undersized dog to be
      avoiding
      Fun Fact; There is a species of clover
      in Europe called the crimson clover.
