  1. What did Picasso mean when he said “good artists copy, great artists steal”? Did he really say this or did someone else say it? I’ve noticed plagiarism is not a thing in visual art. Anyone can repaint anyone else’s work, identically and sell it under their own name. To say nothing of incorporating someone else’s art in a new creation of one’s own. I learned this first on Fine Art America when I found so many artists were also copiests. Brazenly so. So taking someone’s work and doing something else with it must be taken as an homage. I think the original artist is rather meant to be flattered. (:

    • We stand on the shoulders of giants,
but some choose to pick their pockets.
One should always pay due credit.
I was weened by Mother Surrealism,
and then rebelled against Pop Art.
      A realistic Neo-Classical brat, like a
still life basket of fruit. I find inspiration
in all good art. Picasso did say that
creation is destruction. Perhaps that is
      the fate of all plagiarism.
Thanks Elisa for the insightful commenting
